Hello Vickers Students and Families,
We are going to start an online “choose the adventure” story. Students will be able to read a section and then pick a direction for the story to take. The results will be collected and the one choice, with the most selections, will determine the next step in the story. All the new chapters will be on our website. New chapters will be announced on Instagram, Facebook or by your teacher. All you need to do is choose an answer and submit it. Let’s try one:
Chapter 1
It was a sunny day in the city of Prince Albert. The snow was finally melting and spring was here. The birds were singing in the trees. Little animals were seen scampering around in backyards. Even though it was such a perfect day, there was trouble in the air.
Last year, the Big Book of Reading Secrets had been stolen by the Booknapper. The students of École Vickers Public School were able to save the book and bring it back to the school. The book was put in a secure case, surrounded by security lights, cameras and alarms. If anything happened to the book, the newly-formed superhero team, The Book Keepers, would be called to deal with the emergency.
On this day, we find Mrs. Green, working from home because of the quarantine. She is having a fresh cup of coffee when the phone rings.
“Hello,” said Mrs. Green.
“Is this the principal of École Vickers Public School?” questioned a person, with a slow, whispery voice.
“Yes, it is. I am Mrs. Green,o the principal.”
“The book is jeopardy.”
Mrs. Green jumped to her feet. “What do you mean? Who is this?” she demanded.
“Don’t be concerned about who I am? There is a plan to steal the book again. You need to stop it,” the individual replied.
“Our book is secure at school, under the protection of The Book Keepers. There is no way it is going to be taken. No one can go to school right now because of the quarantine,” Mrs. Green said confidently.
“YOU ARE WRONG!” the person hissed back. “The plan is to take the book while the students are out of school. I have a tip that can help you stop the plan, but I will only share it with your superhero team.”
“How do I know you are telling the truth?” asked Mrs. Green.
“Well, I guess you have a big decision. Do you want my help or not?” the caller asked.
“Ok, give me the tip,” Mrs. Green said to trick the caller.
“Oh not so fast. I said I would only talk to the superhero team. Where are they at?”
“They are at their secret headquarters. I will give you a direct number. I don’t know who you are, but I know the students of Vickers School will not let that book go missing again,” Mrs. Green replied.
“Well, I hope your team is good because they have their work cut out for them.”
The line went dead. Mrs. Green quickly thought that she should contact the team before the caller was able to get a hold of them. She turned on her facetime and connected to the secret headquarters. The headquarters was:

Chapter 2
ZIP ZIP ZING – ZIP ZIP ZANG. The huge monitor, located in The Book Keepers headquarters, an UNDERGROUND BUNKER, blared to life. The superheroes ran to the screen as Mrs. Green appeared.
“Superheroes we have a problem!” she exclaimed. “A huge problem.”
“Has the book gone missing?” asked one of the team members.
“No, it is still secure at the school, under surveillance. I received a call from an unknown source that there will be another attempt to steal the book. We need to find these Booknappers before they steal the book,” explained Mrs. Green.
The Book Keepers looked confused. “How do we find the Booknapper?”
“The unknown person is going to call you soon. The person insists on only speaking to you and will tell you how to get to the Booknappers. Oh no! My phone is breaking down. I can’t see if you are all there. Give me a roll call!” calls out Mrs. Green.
Now it is time to choose the names and the colour of their super suits. Go to the google form to make your choices.
Chapitre 2
ZIP ZIP ZING – ZIP ZIP ZANG. L’énorme écran, situé au siège des Guardiens Du Livre, un BUNKEUR SOUTERRAIN, s’est allumé. Les superhéros ont couru à l’écran lorsque Mme Green est apparue.
«Superhéros, nous avons un problème!» s’exclama-t-elle. «Un énorme problème.
«Le livre a-t-il disparu?» a demandé un des membres de l’équipe.
«Non, le livre est toujours à l’école, sous surveillance. J’ai reçu un appel d’une source inconnue qu’il y aura une autre essaie de voler le livre. Nous devons trouver ces Booknappers avant qu’ils volent le livre, » a expliqué Mme Green.
Les Guradiens du Livre semblaient confus. «Comment trouver le Booknapper?»
«L’inconnu va bientôt vous appeler. La personne insiste pour vous parler uniquement et vous expliquera comment vous rendre chez les Booknappers. Oh non! Mon téléphone tombe en panne. Je ne vois pas si vous êtes tous là. Appelez-moi! » crie Mme Green.
Chapter 3 – A New Friend?
The Superhero team, The Book Keepers, waited patiently for the screen to come alive. Super Summarizer, the leader of the team, watched the anticipation on the faces of the others. Rocket Retriever, Word Wolf and Epic were prepared to follow their leader and protect the book. The quarantine had them all ready for some new excitement. They did not know how they could protect the book if they could not have any contact with more than 10 people at a time.
Suddenly, the screen lit up and a dark, blurry outline of a face appeared on the monitor. The team could not make out any eyes, nose, or mouth.
“Hello, Book Keepers. How are my friends?” The voice was quiet and shaky.
“How do we know you are our friend? We do not know you and can’t see your face,” Super Summarizer said.
“Oh, I am your friend. If I wasn’t, would I be giving you important information about your precious little book?” hissed the face.
“What information do you have? Come on tell us right now,” yelled Epic.
Super Summarizer put her hand on Epic’s shoulder and said, “Easy now, let’s hear what the talking head has to say.”
“I have been told that the book will be stolen before the end of June. It will be taken by a person who does not want your students to become great readers and writers. I don’t know when it will happen but I do know one thing. You need to find clues to stop this Booknapper,” explained the voice.
“How are we to stop this bad dude? We are not supposed to leave our bunker and visit other places!” exclaimed Rocket Retriever.
“I will provide you with a way to get the clues. I have found tunnels that travel to bizarre places. They are called Travel Tunnels. All you need to do is hit a button and the tunnels will zip you away,” said the voice.
Word Wolf could not believe what he was hearing. “You are saying, all we have to do is hit a button and we are transported out of here? That is nuts. Our provincial government doesn’t allow us to meet with others right now. I can only do a Zoom meeting with my BFF. I think you are crazy.”
“I did not say it was going to put you somewhere in the world right now. That would be irresponsible. You will be sent elsewhere. Now, it’s time to choose. Unless, of course, you are too scared?” the voice asked in a challenging tone.
Super Summarizer turned to her team. “Do we do it? Do we trust this floating head? Do we go into the unknown?”

Chapitre 3 – Un nouveau ami?
L’équipe de super-héros, les Guardiens du Livre, a attendu patiemment que l’écran s’anime. Super Résumeur, le chef de l’équipe, a observé l’anticipation sur le visage des autres. Récupérateur Rapide, Le Loup des Mots et Épique étaient prêts à suivre leur chef et à protéger le livre. La quarantaine les avait tous prêts pour une nouvelle aventure. Ils ne savaient pas comment ils pourraient protéger le livre s’ils ne pouvaient avoir aucun contact avec plus de 10 personnes à la fois.
Soudain, l’écran s’est allumé et un contour sombre et embrouillé d’un visage est apparu sur le moniteur. L’équipe n’a pas pu distinguer les yeux, le nez ou la bouche.
«Bonjour, Guradiens du Livre. Comment vont mes amis? » La voix était calme et tremblante.
«Comment savons-nous que vous êtes notre ami? Nous ne vous connaissons pas et ne pouvons pas voir votre visage,» a déclaré Super Résumeur.
«Oh, je suis votre ami. Sinon, est-ce que je vous donnerais des informations importantes sur votre précieux petit livre?» siffla le visage.
«De quelles informations avez-vous? Venez nous le dire tout de suite!» a crié Épique.
Super Résumeur a mis sa main sur l’épaule d’Épique et a dit: “Calme-toi et écoutons ce que la tête parlante a à dire.»
«On m’a dit que le livre serait volé avant la fin du mois de juin. Il sera pris par une personne qui ne veut pas que vos élèves deviennent de grands lecteurs et écrivains. Je ne sais pas quand cela arrivera mais je sais une chose. Vous devez trouver des indices pour arrêter ce Booknapper,» expliqua la voix.
«Comment allons-nous arrêter ce mauvais mec? Nous ne sommes pas censés quitter notre bunker et visiter d’autres endroits. », S’est exclamé Récupérateur Rapide.
«Je vais vous fournir une façon d’obtenir les indices. J’ai trouvé des tunnels qui voyagent dans des endroits bizarres. Ils sont appelés tunnels de voyage. Tout ce que vous avez à faire est d’appuyer sur un bouton et les tunnels vous amèneront ailleurs,» a déclaré la voix.
Le Loup de Mots ne pouvait pas croire ce qu’il entendait. «Vous dites, tout ce que nous avons à faire est d’appuyer sur un bouton et nous sommes transportés d’ici. C’est fou! Notre gouvernement provincial ne nous permet pas de rencontrer d’autres personnes pour le moment. Je ne peux faire qu’une réunion Zoom avec mon meilleur ami. Je pense que tu es fou.»
«Je n’ai pas dit que ça allait vous mettre quelque part dans le monde en ce moment. Ce serait irresponsable. Vous serez envoyé ailleurs. Maintenant, il est temps de choisir. À moins, bien sûr, que vous n’ayez trop peur? », a demandé la voix.
Super Résumeur s’est tourné vers son équipe. «Le faisons-nous? Avons-nous confiance en cette tête flottante? Allons-nous dans l’inconnu? »
Chapter 4 – Going for a Spin
All three instantly raised their hands and shouted: “Press the Button!”
“It is our responsibility to keep the book safe. If Mme Hudon’s grade 4 class was here right now, they would do whatever it took to protect that book. I have seen them in Phys. Ed. and they are some intense students, with great powers. We must do our duty,” said Super Summarizer. “Team, hold on to something. We are going for a ride.”
Super Summarizer reached out and pushed the button. Everything began to spin. A wave of dizziness came over the four team members. Everyone was feeling sick to their stomach, except Word Wolf. He liked it. The spinning continued for twenty seconds and then came to a stop. It took a few more seconds for the team to regain their balance. They had landed in front of Vickers school.
“I didn’t like that spinning kerfuffle. I think my brains have turned into poutine,” yelled Epic as he grabbed his head. “It feels like I was hit by a mini stick, no many mini sticks.”
Rocket Retriever looked around. “We are at the school. Or I think it is Vickers. It looks super new.”
Everyone checked out their new surroundings. It was their school but not really. There was something out of place.
Suddenly Super Summarizer realized what was different. “Look at the name of the school,” she yelled, “It says Vickers School and not École Vickers School. What does this mean? Are we in the past?”
Suddenly a box appeared before the heroes. It slowly opened, revealing a letter.
“What does it say?” asked Epic.
Super Summarizer picked up the letter and began reading. “Welcome to 1989 Heroes. It is time for you to find your first clue. You need to look for a special person. When you ask this question, they will give you a clue. ‘What movie are you going to on Saturday at Cinema IV?’. The answer will be your first clue. You will find the person where Montanas, the restaurant, exists in your time. Obviously, it wasn’t always Montanas. In 1989, it was a fast-food restaurant where everyone hung out. Go to that place and ask the question.”
“Okay, that was super duper pooper weird,” said Wolf. “We have to go to a fast-food restaurant? Which fast food restaurant?

Chapitre 4 – Faire un tour
Tous les trois ont instantanément levé la main et crié: «Appuyez sur le bouton!»
«Il est de notre responsabilité de garder le livre en sécurité. Si la classe de 4e année de Mme Hudon était ici en ce moment, ils feraient tout ce qu’il fallait pour protéger ce livre. Je les ai vus en classe d’éducation physique, et ce sont des étudiants intenses, avec de grands pouvoirs. Nous devons faire une tâche », a déclaré Super Résumeur.. «Équipe, accroche-toi à quelque chose. Nous allons faire un tour.»
Super Résumeur tendit la main et poussa le bouton. Tout a commencé à tourner. Une vague de vertiges est venue sur les quatre membres de l’équipe. Tout le monde se sentait mal au ventre, sauf Le Loup des Mots. Il aimait ça. La rotation a continué pendant vingt secondes, puis s’est arrêtée. Il a fallu quelques secondes de plus à l’équipe pour retrouver son équilibre. Ils avaient atterri devant l’École Vickers.
“Je n’aimais pas cette cafouillage tournante. Je pense que mon cerveau s’est transformé en poutine, »a crié Epique en saisissant sa tête. «J’ai l’impression d’avoir été frappé par un mini bâton de hockey. Non, plusieurs mini bâtons de hockey.»
Récupérateur Rapide regarda autour de lui. «Nous sommes à l’école. Ou, je pense que c’est l’école Vickers. Elle a l’air super nouvelle. »
Tout le monde a vérifié leur nouvel environnement. C’était leur école mais pas vraiment. Il y avait quelque chose hors de propos.
Soudain, Super Résumeur a réalisé ce qui était différent. «Regardez le nom de l’école», a-t-elle crié, «il est écrit Vickers School et non École Vickers School. Qu’est-ce que ça veut dire? Sommes-nous dans le passé? »
Soudain, une boîte est apparue devant les héros. Il s’ouvrit lentement, révélant une lettre.
«Ça dit quoi?» demanda Epique.
Super Résumeur a ramassé la lettre et a commencé à lire. «Bienvenue chez 1989, Heroes. Il est temps pour vous de trouver votre premier indice. Vous devez chercher une personne spéciale. Lorsque vous poserez cette question, ils vous donneront un indice. «Quel film allez-vous voir samedi au Cinéma IV?». La réponse sera votre premier indice. Vous trouverez la personne où Montanas, le restaurant, existe en votre temps. Évidemment, ce n’était pas toujours Montanas. En 1989, c’était un restaurant à service rapide où tout le monde traînait. Allez à cet endroit et posez la question.»
